• Mary’s Month of May

Catholics have dedicated the month of May to the Blessed Virgin Mary. There are some popular ways to celebrate it: prayers, pilgrimages, and services.

In Our Lady of La Salette Shrine in Twin Lakes, we had a daily exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and recitation of the rosary after Mass at 7:30 am (except Sunday) throughout May 2021. We placed a crown of flowers on the head of the statue of the Blessed Virgin to honor Mary’s virtues. Finally, on our website, we published short daily reflections and Marian prayers. They are all collected below. You are invited to read them and pray.

My katolicy od wieków poświęcamy Najświętszej Maryi Pannie miesiąc maj. Czcimy Matkę Pana poprzez modlitwy, pielgrzymki i różne dzieła.

W Sanktuarium Matki Bożej Saletyńskiej w Twin Lakes, codziennie w maju (oprócz niedziel) odmawialiśmy modlitwę różańcową przed Najświętszym Sakramentem po Mszy św. po angielsku o godz. 7:30 am. Zapraszamy do wspólnej modlitwy.

  • Marian Prayer / Modlitwy maryjne: “Magnificat” (1)

The “Canticle of Mary” or “Magnificat” is taken from the Gospel according to Luke 1:46-55. The “Magnificat” is a Song of joy and of hope, of thanksgiving and of sharing. Pray and meditate this beautiful text.

My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord, my spirit rejoices in God my Savior for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant. From this day all generations will call me blessed: the Almighty has done great things for me, and holy is his Name. He has mercy on those who fear him in every generation. He has shown the strength of his arm, he has scattered the proud in their conceit. He has cast down the mighty from their thrones, and has lifted up the lowly. He has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent away empty. He has come to the help of his servant Israel for he remembered his promise of mercy, the promise he made to our fathers, to Abraham and his children for ever.

“Kantyk Maryi” albo “Magnificat” pochodzi z Ewangelii św. Łukasza 1,46-55. To pieśń radości I nadziei, to dziękczynienie i świadectwo.

Strącił władców z tronu, a wywyższył pokornych. Głodnych nasycił dobrami, a bogatych z niczym odprawił.

    Amen.

  • Marian prayers / Modlitwy maryjne: Ave Maria (3)

The Hail Mary! This Marian prayer summarizes the whole of the Church’s public prayers to Mary. Its first part – the Evangelical Salutation – is among the first to be used in the Church and its full form put together with the Supplication of the Church in the fifteenth century and finalized in the sixteenth.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Amen.

  • Marian prayers / Modlitwy maryjne: Memorare / Pomnij (4)

The Memorare is a sixteenth-century version of a fifteenth-century prayer that began “Ad sanctitatis tuae pedes, dulcissima Virgo Maria.” Claude Bernard (1588-1641) popularized the idea that the Memorare was written by Saint Bernard.

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection,
implored your help, or sought your intercession, was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto you, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To you do I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in your mercy, hear and answer me.
    Amen.

Tą ufnością ożywiony, do Ciebie, o Panno nad pannami i Matko, biegnę, do Ciebie przychodzę, przed Tobą jako grzesznik płaczący staję. Amen.

  • Queen of Heaven rejoice: Marian prayer / Modlitwy maryjne (5)

The “Regina Caeli” is a twelfth-century antiphon for Evening Prayer during the Easter Season. Since the thirteenth century, it has been used as the seasonal antiphon in honor of the Blessed Virgin after Night Prayer.

    Queen of heaven, rejoice, alleluia.
The Son whom you merited to bear, alleluia, has risen as he said, alleluia. Pray to God for us, alleluia. Rejoice and be glad, O Virgin Mary, alleluia. For the Lord has truly risen, alleluia.

  • Marian prayers / Modlitwy maryjne: Ave, Maris Stella (6)

The Latin version of this prayer, Ave, Maris stella, can be traced to the late eighth/early ninth century. The title, Star of the Sea (or Ocean), is one of the oldest and most widely spread titles for Mary. The prayer is often used to pray for travelers. Mary herself is a sign of hope for a safe arrival to one’s destination.

    1. Hail, you Star of Ocean! Portal of the sky, Ever Virgin Mother, Of the Lord most high. 2. O! by Gabriel’s Ave, Uttered long ago, Eva’s name reversing, Establish peace below. 3. Break the captive’s fetters; Light on blindness pour; All our ills expelling,
Every bliss implore. 4. Show yourself a mother; Offer him our sighs, Who for us Incarnate Did not you despise. 5 Virgin of all virgins! To your shelter take us; Gentlest of the gentle! Chaste and gentle make us. 6. Still as on we journey, Help our weak endeavor, Till with you and Jesus We rejoice forever. 7. Through the highest heaven, To the Almighty Three, Father, Son, and Spirit, One same glory be. Amen.

Ave, Maris Stella to łacińska modlitwa, Której ślady datują się na VIII wiek i początek IX. “Gwiazda morza” to tytuł, jaki nadano Maryi bardzo dawno temu. Ten tytuł szybko się rozpowszechnił w modlitwach podróżujących. Matka Boża jest znakiem nadziei w drodze do celu, w sposób szczególny do wieczności.

    1. Witaj, Gwiazdo morza, Wielka Matko Boga, Panno zawsze czysta,
Bramo niebios błoga. 2. Ty, coś Gabriela Słowem przywitana, Utwierdź nas w pokoju, Odmień Ewy miano. 3. Winnych wyzwól z więzów, Ślepym powróć blaski. Oddal nasze nędze, Uproś wszelkie łaski. 4. 5. O Dziewico sławna I pokory wzorze, Wyzwolonym z winy Daj nam żyć w pokorze. 6. Daj wieść życie czyste, Drogę ściel bezpieczną, Widzieć daj Jezusa, Mieć w Nim radość wieczną. 7. Bogu Ojcu chwała, Chrystusowi pienie, Obu z Duchem Świętym
    Jedno uwielbienie. Amen

  • Marian prayers / Modlitwy maryjne: Salve Regina (7)

The “Salve, Regina” is one of the four Marian antiphons. It was possibly written by Hermann the Lame, a monk of Reichenau (1013-1054). The “Salve, Regina” was sung at the end of Night Prayer and used as a processional antiphon at the Abbey of Cluny (France) from around 1135.

Hail, holy Queen, Mother of mercy, hail, our life, our sweetness, and our hope. To you we cry, the children of Eve; to you we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this land of exile. Turn, then, most gracious advocate, your eyes of mercy toward us; lead us home at last and show us the blessed fruit of your womb, Jesus: O clement, O loving, O sweet virgin Mary.

“Witaj Królowo” jest jedną z czterech antyfon. Przypisywana jest bł. Hermanowi z Reichenau (1013-1054).

Witaj Królowo, Matko Miłosierdzia, życie, słodyczy i nadziejo nasza, witaj! Do Ciebie wołamy wygnańcy, synowie Ewy; do Ciebie wzdychamy jęcząc i płacząc na tym łez padole. Przeto, Orędowniczko nasza, one miłosierne oczy Twoje na nas zwróć, a Jezusa, błogosławiony owoc żywota Twojego, po tym wygnaniu nam okaż. O łaskawa, o litościwa, o słodka Panno Maryjo!

  • Marian prayers / Modlitwy maryjne: Alma Redemptoris Mater (8)

The “Alma Redemptoris Mater,” which dates from the eleventh century, is one of the four antiphons sung after Night Prayer. It is used in the Advent Season.

    Loving mother of the Redeemer,
gate of heaven, star of the sea,
assist your people who have fallen yet strive to rise again.
To the wonderment of nature you bore your Creator,
Yet remained a virgin after as before.
You who received Gabriel’s joyful greeting,
have pity on us poor sinners.

Matko Odkupiciela, z niewiast najsławniejsza, Gwiazdo Morska, do nieba ścieżko najprościejsza, Tyś jest przechodnią bramą do raju wiecznego,  Tyś jedyną nadzieją człowieka grzesznego.

  • Marian prayers / Modlitwy maryjne: The Litany of Loreto (9)

Litany is a series of short petitions and exhortations to which the people respond by the Kyrie eleison: Grant this, Lord: to Thee, Lord. In the East, marian litanies are numerous. From Constantinople the Litany was taken to Rome and the West. The Litany of Loreto, so called because of its use in the sanctuary of Loreto (Italy) since at least as far back as 1531, was officially approved in 1587 by Pope Sixtus V. Pray the Litany of Loreto here

Sięga 1531 r., a zatwierdził ją papież Sykstus V w 1587 r. Witaj, o Najśliczniejsza,
    Proś Chrystusa za nami.

  • Marian prayers / Modlitwy maryjne: The Angelus (11)

There is no single author of the Angelus. The present form of the Angelus, as it was recommended by Pope Paul VI in his Marialis Cultus, is the result of a century-long development and was definitively approved by Pope Benedict XIV in 1724. The Angelus is an explicitly biblical prayer. It has quasi-liturgical character in as much as it provides sanctification of various parts of the day. Pray the Angelus here

Tekst modlitwy znajdziesz tutaj

Na zakończenie Mszy św. w niedzielę 13 października 2013 r. — w rocznicę ostatniego ukazania się Matki Bożej trojgu pastuszkom w Fatimie — Papież Franciszek zawierzył ludzkość Najświętszej Maryi Pannie, odmawiając następującą modlitwę, zwaną Aktem Zawierzenia Matce Bożej Fatimskiej

  • Marian prayers / Modlitwy Maryjne: Prayer to Our Lady of Lourdes (14)

The story of Lourdes is well known. Between February 11 and July 16, 1858, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared eighteen times to fourteen-year-old Bernadette Soubirous in that small town located in the foothills of the Pyrenee mountains of southern France. The liturgical feast of Our Lady of Lourdes was established for February 11, approved by Pope Leo XIII, and first granted to the Diocese of Tarbes in the year 1890. Less than twenty years later, on November 13, 1907, his successor, Pope St. Pius X proclaimed that it be observed throughout the universal Church. Here pray to Our Lady of Lourdes

Tu znajdziesz modlitwę do Matki Bożej z Lourdes

  • Marian prayers / Modlitwy maryjne: Prayer to Our Lady of Good Help (15)

Identifying herself as ‘The Queen of Heaven who prays for the conversion of sinners,’ Mary appeared in October 1859 to a Belgian immigrant woman, Adele Brise, on the grounds of Champion Shrine, when the town was known as Robinsonville. The first two apparitions were silent, but the third time the Blessed Virgin Mary spoke to her. In December 2010, after a period of prayerful discernment during which he reviewed years of research and investigation by expert Mariologists, The Most Rev. David L. Ricken, Bishop of Green Bay, determined it to be ‘worthy of belief’ that the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to Adele Brise. On August 15, 2016, The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops declared Champion a ‘National Shrine,’ by formal decree, distinguishing ‘The National Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help’ as the first and only Catholic Shrine in America with a Church-approved Marian Apparition Site. Pray here to Our Lady of Good Help

  • Marian prayers / Modlitwy maryjne: The Akhatist to the Theotokos (16)

The Akathist Hymn is a profound, devotional poem, which sings the praises of the Holy Mother and Ever-Virgin Mary. It is one of the most beloved services in the Orthodox Church. It was composed in the imperial city of Constantinople, “the city of the Virgin,” by St. Romanos the Melodist. The Akathist hymn consists of praises directed to the Mother of God, beginning with the salutation of the Archangel Gabriel: “Rejoice.” As the hymn is chanted all of the events related to our Lord’s Incarnation pass before us for our contemplation. The word “akathistos” means “not sitting,” i.e., standing; normally all participants stand while it is being prayed. The hymn is comprised of 24 stanzas, arranged in an acrostic following the Greek alphabet. You can listen the Akathist here

Hymn Akatyst to głęboki, pobożny poemat, w który wysławia Najświętszą Matkę i Maryję Dziewicę. Jest to jedno z najbardziej lubianych nabożeństw w Kościele prawosławnym. Hymn ten został skomponowany w cesarskim mieście Konstantynopolu, „mieście Dziewicy”, przez św. Romana Melodystę. Hymn Akatyst składa się z uwielbienia skierowanego do Matki Bożej, rozpoczynającego się pozdrowieniem Archanioła Gabriela: „Raduj się”. Gdy hymn jest śpiewany, wszystkie wydarzenia związane z Wcieleniem naszego Pana przechodzą przed nami do kontemplacji. Słowo „akathistos” oznacza „nie siedzieć”, czyli stać. Zwykle wszyscy uczestnicy stoją podczas modlitwy. Hymn składa się z 24 strof, ułożonych w wiersze zgodnie z alfabetem greckim. Tu możesz posłuchać modlitwy Akatyst

  • Marian prayers / Modlitwy maryjne: Our Lady of Akita – Japan (17)

On June 12, 1973, Sr. Agnes Sasagawa of the Handmaids of the Eucharist began receiving heavenly visions in a convent located in Akita, Japan. At first she saw angelic beings worshiping the Eucharist, but then on July 6, 1973, Sasagawa saw a wooden statue of the Virgin Mary speak to her, relaying a powerful message similar to what the three shepherd children received in Fatima, Portugal. The statue soon after began to bleed and tears started to flow down her cheeks. Around 2,000 people witnessed the tears coming from the statue and the liquid was gathered and sent to a laboratory for testing. The blood was confirmed to be of human origin, as were the tears. After a lengthy investigation, the local bishop, John Shoojiroo Ito of Niigata, approved the apparition to be of supernatural origin and “worthy of belief.” Here you can find the Akita Prayer

W dniu 12 czerwca 1973 r.

  • Marian prayers / Modlitwy maryjne: The Miraculous Medal (18)

That is what happened for the Madonna of the Miraculous Medal: on November 27th, 1830 she appeared to the future Saint Catherine Labouré, young nun of the congregation of the daughters of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul in the Novitiate Chapel in rue du Bac, Paris. The Virgin said that the medal would be a sign of love, a pledge of protection and source of grace for those who would trust in it. The Virgin herself showed Catherine what the medal should look like. Pope Pius XII sanctified Catherine Labouré in 1947. The Miraculous Medal prayer may be found here.

Świadkiem objawienia była s. Katarzyna Labouré. Najświętsza Panna powiedziała, że medalik będzie znakiem miłości, obietnicą opieki i źródłem łaski dla każdego, kto będzie pokładał w nim nadzieję. Maryja pokazała, jak ma wyglądać medalik. Kanonizował s. Katarzynę Labouré papież Pius XII w 1947 r. Oto modlitwy do Matki Najświętszej, związane z Cudownym Medalikiem.

  • Marian Prayer / Modlitwy maryjne: Our Lady of La Salette (19)

On September 19, 1846, in the pastures above the village of La Salette, France two shepherd children Maximin Giraud and Mélanie Calvat say they have met a “Beautiful Lady” in tears, all in the light. She entrusted them with a Message of conversion for “all her people”, who spontaneously called her “The Reconciler of sinners”. On September 19, 1851 after a long and rigorous investigation, Mgr Philibert de Bruillard, the bishop of Grenoble declared in a letter: “The Apparition of the Blessed Virgin to two shepherds on the mountain of La Salette […] carries in itself all the characteristics of the truth and which the faithful are justified in believing to be unmistakable and certain”. The Sanctuary is built around the site of the Marian Apparition of 1846 at an altitude of nearly 1800 m. Invocation: “Our Lady of La Salette, Reconciler of Sinners, pray without ceasing for us who have recourse to you”. Find other prayers.

Inne modlitwy…

  • Marian Prayer / Modlitwy maryjne: Częstochowa, Poland (20)

The image of Our Lady of Czestochowa, from the beginning of the Shrine, was recognized as extraordinary, surrounded by the devotion of the faithful (including Polish kings). Distinguishing the Icon of Our Lady of Czestochowa are the scars on the face of the Blessed Virgin, a sign and symbol of the mystery of the Cross and suffering. The Icon carries with it the marks of wounds and pain. For the people of Poland, these scratches are an integral part of their identification of themselves with the Queen of Poland. In the darkest and most difficult moments for Poland, those marks of suffering and redemption became a sign of hope and help, to stand the test of time. Just like the seven swords of sorrows that pierced her heart under the Cross, she now wears these same signs of sorrows on her miraculous Icon. Prayer may be found here.

Modlitwa

  • Marian Prayer / Modlitwy maryjne: Gietrzwald, Poland (21)

Our Lady of Gietrzwald is Poland’s only approved apparition of the Blessed Mother to the thirteen-year-old Justyna Szafryńska and 12-year-old Barbara Samulowska. The apparitions started June 27, 1877 and would continue for almost three months, concluding on September 16. Our Lady spoke in the local dialect similar to the Polish language. At that time, the Polish language had been banned by Prussian government in all the schools in the region. As a result of the Kulturkampf, “rebellious” Catholic priests and religious congregations with the exception of those actively involved in social work were removed from Warmia. Like the Woman of Lourdes, Our Lady of Gietrzwald called herself the Immaculate Conception and said: “I want you to pray the Rosary daily.” Pray a decade of the Rosary. Find more here.

Świadkami były trzynastoletnia Justyna Szafryńska i dwunastoletnia Barbara Samulowska.

  • Marian Prayer / Modlitwy maryjne: Pompeii, Italy (22)

As a place of memory, The Shrine of Our Lady of Pompeii is a reminder of God’s powerful actions in history and in the lives of Italian immigrants to the Chicago area. It is where, for nearly 100 years, thousands have continually given thanks to God as they draw together in community and commitment to each other. Today the Shrine fosters weekly devotions to the Holy Rosary and to extraordinary people of faith in our recent past such as Padre Pio or Bartolo Longo.

“At the start of the twenty-fifth year of my Pontificate, I entrust this Apostolic Letter to the loving hands of the Virgin Mary, prostrating myself in spirit before her image in the splendid Shrine built for her by Blessed Bartolo Longo, the apostle of the Rosary. I willingly make my own the touching words with which he concluded his well-known Supplication to the Queen of the Holy Rosary: “O Blessed Rosary of Mary, sweet chain which unites us to God, bond of love which unites us to the angels, tower of salvation against the assaults of Hell, safe port in our universal shipwreck, we will never abandon you. You will be our comfort in the hour of death: yours our final kiss as life ebbs away. And the last word from our lips will be your sweet name, O Queen of the Rosary of Pompei, O dearest Mother, O Refuge of Sinners, O Sovereign Consoler of the Afflicted. May you be everywhere blessed, today and always, on earth and in heaven” (S. John Paul II, Rosarium Virginis Mariae, 43).

Sanktuarium Matki Bożej w Pompeii we Włoszech jest pamiątką wielkich dzieł Boga w historii i w życiu włoskich emigrantów, którzy wyjechali do Chicago.

A ostatnim akcentem naszych warg będzie Twoje słodkie imię, o Królowo Różańca z Pompei, o Matko nasza droga, o Ucieczko grzeszników, o Władczyni, Pocieszycielko strapionych. Bądź wszędzie błogosławiona, dziś i zawsze, na ziemi i w niebie» (>Św. Jan Paweł II, RVM, 43).

  • Marian Prayer / Modlitwy maryjne: Pentecost and Mary (23)

The “feast of harvest, of the first fruits of your labor, of what you sow in the field,” (Ex 23:16) was called “Pentecost” in Greek, because it was celebrated fifty days after the feast of the Pasch. It was also called the feast of weeks, because it fell true seven weeks after the Pasch. The celebration of Pentecost later also became the feast of the renewal of the covenant.
For us it is the descent of the Holy Spirit on the Apostles and on the first community of Christ’s disciples who “devoted themselves with one accord to prayer,” together with Mary the Mother of Jesus. The feast of harvest becomes the feast of the new “harvest” for which the Holy Spirit is responsible: the harvest in the Spirit. This harvest is the fruit of the seed sown by Christ. In the Pentecost event the Holy Spirit remains the mysterious God. Mary, too, was enveloped in the mystery, as the quiet hour of the Annunciation indicates! But, Pentecost was different. It was a theophany, a powerful manifestation of God. It is by God’s design that Mary was present in the Upper Room.

  • Marian Prayer / Modlitwy maryjne: Mother of the Church (24)

The Easter Season closes with the great feast of Pentecost Sunday, traditionally called the “birthday” of the Church. The Blessed Virgin Mary was there: the “apostles were constantly at prayer together, and with them a group of women, including Mary, the mother of Jesus.” (Acts 1:14). She is the perfect pattern of the Church at prayer. Mary had been present at the very beginnings of the Church: standing at the foot of the cross where she was appointed to be mother of all those who were brought to life through the death of her only Son.

Mary has held the title Mother of the Church for centuries. “She is invoked as Mother of the Church and the teacher and Queen of the Apostles” (Pope Leo XIII). Saint Pope John XXIII spoke of Mary as “Mother of the Church and our most loving Mother.” On November 21, 1964, at the request of the Polish bishops, Pope Paul VI stated, “For the glory of the Blessed Virgin and our own consolation, we proclaim the Most Blessed Virgin Mary Mother of the Church, of the whole people of God, faithful and pastors, and we call her most loving Mother.” Pope John Paul II has frequently used this title: “In the birth of the Church, the one to whom we owe the birth of Christ participates in a particular way.”

Since 1971, the Blessed Mother has been invoked as Mother of the Church in Poland and then in Argentina. Pope Francis, has deemed it fitting in 2018 that Mary be recognized by the whole Church by this magnificent title of the Mother of the Church. Here is the prayer.

Paweł VI ogłosił: “NA CHWAŁĘ MATKI BOŻEJ I KU NASZEMU POKRZEPIENIU, OGŁASZAMY NAJŚWIĘTSZĄ MARYJĘ PANNĘ MATKĄ KOŚCIOŁA, TO JEST MATKĄ CAŁEGO LUDU BOŻEGO, ZARÓWNO WIERNYCH, JAK I PASTERZY, KTÓRZY NAZYWAJĄ JĄ NAJUKOCHAŃSZĄ MATKĄ.”

Tu można znaleźć modlitwę Franciszka do Matki Kościoła.

  • Marian prayers / Modlitwy maryjne: Our Lady of Sorrows (25)

The Catholic Church celebrates the feast of Our Lady of Sorrows on September 15, the day after the feast of the Holy Cross to show the close connection between Jesus’ Passion and Mary’s Sorrows. This advocation has its roots in the Gospel. This form of Marian piety goes back to the fourteenth century, but Mary’s compassion was remembered from early centuries. The devotion to the Sorrows of Mary properly appears toward the middle of the fourteenth century. Contributing authors may have been Henry Suso (d. 1366) and other Rhenish mystics. Devotion to the five sorrows of Mary appears first and eventually develops into devotion to seven sorrows. In fact, two lists of seven sorrows were drawn up, one including the infancy and childhood of Jesus Christ, the other concentrating on the Passion. Pray here to Our Lady of Sorrows

W rzeczywistości sporządzono dwie listy siedmiu boleści, jedną obejmującą niemowlęctwo i dzieciństwo Jezusa Chrystusa, a drugą dotyczącą Jego męki. Tutaj znajdziesz modlitwę do Matki Bożej Bolesnej

  • Marian prayers / Modlitwy maryjne: Prayer to the Immaculate (26)

In the Constitution Ineffabilis Deus of 8 December, 1854, Pius IX pronounced and defined that the Blessed Virgin Mary “in the first instance of her conception, by a singular privilege and grace granted by God, in view of the merits of Jesus Christ, the Saviour of the human race, was preserved exempt from all stain of original sin.” The Immaculate Conception means that Mary, whose conception was brought about the normal way, was conceived without original sin or its stain—that’s what “immaculate” means: without stain. The essence of original sin consists in the deprivation of sanctifying grace, and its stain is a corrupt nature. Mary was preserved from these defects by God’s grace; from the first instant of her existence she was in the state of sanctifying grace and was free from the corrupt nature original sin brings. Pray here with St. Maximilian Kolbe’s Prayer of Total Consecration

  • Marian prayers / Modlitwy maryjne: Prayer to Mary Assumed into Heaven (27)

There are four solemnities honoring the Mother of Jesus that are kept throughout the Catholic church: The Immaculate conception (December 8), her divine Motherhood (January 1), the Annunciation (March 25), her Assumption (August 15). Like the dogma of Mary’s Immaculate Conception, the dogma of the Assumption is not explicitly stated in the Bible. The teaching that ‘at the end of her earthly course, Mary was assumed into heavenly glory, body and soul’ was dogmatically defined by Pius XII in 1950 in Munificentissimus Deus. With the Assumption, the promises of the Lord were fulfilled for Mary, and as always, beyond all expectation. Her glorification in body and soul resulted from divine graciousness and gracefulness. Here pray to Mary Assumed into Heaven

  • Marian prayers / Modlitwy maryjne: Prayer to the Theotokos (28)

The title “Mother of God” is the Western church’s equivalent of the ancient Eastern title Theotokos. The usual Latin translations are Dei Genitrix. Familiar English translations are “Mother of God” or “God-bearer” – but these both have different literal equivalents in Greek: “who gave birth to one who was God” and “whose child was God”. In 431, the Council of Ephesus sanctioned the title Theotokos for Mary as a way of declaring and protecting the divinity of Christ. The title declares the most important truth about Mary: She is the Mother of God. When we celebrate this feast [January 1], we honor not only Mary but Jesus, true God and true man. We proclaim the glorious truth that in Mary’s womb the Second Person of the Trinity united himself completely with our humanity.

Prayer To Mother of God: Rejoice, Virgin Birthgiver-of-God, Mary, Full of Grace, the Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb, for you have given birth to the Saviour of our souls. Amen

Tytuł „Matka Boża” jest w zachodnim kościele odpowiednikiem starożytnego wschodniego tytułu Theotokos. Typowe łacińskie tłumaczenia to Dei Genitrix.

Amen

  • Marian prayers / Modlitwy maryjne: The Holy Rosary (29)

The Holy Rosary (Latin rosarium, in the sense of “crown of roses” or “garland of roses”) refers to a set of prayers  used in the Catholic Church and to the string of knots or beads used to count the component prayers. The prayers that compose the Rosary are arranged in sets of ten Hail Marys, called decades. Each decade is preceded by one Lord’s Prayer (“Our Father”) and traditionally followed by one Glory Be. During recitation of each set we recite the Mysteries of the Rosary which recall events in the lives of Jesus and of Mary. Pope Pius V (in office 1566–1572) established a standard 15 Mysteries of the Rosary, based on long-standing custom. This groups the mysteries in three sets: the Joyful Mysteries, the Sorrowful Mysteries, and the Glorious Mysteries. In 2002 Pope John Paul II added a new set of five, termed the Luminous Mysteries, bringing the total number of mysteries to 20. The Glorious mysteries are prayed on Sunday and Wednesday, the Joyful on Monday and Saturday, the Sorrowful on Tuesday and Friday, and the Luminous on Thursday.

Tajemnice zebrane były w trzy części: radosne tajemnice, bolesne tajemnice i chwalebne. W 2002 roku Papież Jan Paweł II dodał nową część zwaną Tajemnicami Światła, zwiększając całkowitą liczbę tajemnic do 20. Tajemnice chwalebne odmawia się w niedzielę i środę, radosne w poniedziałek i sobotę, bolesne we wtorek i piątek a światła w czwartek.

  • Marian prayers / Modlitwy maryjne: Prayer to Our Lady Queen of the Universe (30)

On August 22, the Roman Catholic Church celebrates a memorial in honor of the Queenship of Mary. This memorial is placed in the octave of the Assumption. Assumption and Coronation must be sharply distinguished. Whereas the assumption has been the object of dogmatic definition (1950), the coronation of Mary has never been more than a pious advocation (rosary), an iconographic motif (since the twelfth century) and a devotional custom (coronation of Mary statues known already in the early Middle Ages). However, the coronation points to a Marian title known in Christian tradition since from the beginning of the fourth century. Since the Council of Nicea in 787, the Church has often asserted that it is lawful to venerate images of Christ, Mary and the saints. This is an ancient practice of the Christian churches in both the East and in the West. Coronation is one form of reverence frequently shown to images of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It is especially from the end of the sixteenth century that in the West the practice became widespread for the faithful, both religious and laity, to crown images of the Blessed Virgin. The popes not only endorsed this devout custom but on many occasions, either personally or through bishop-delegates, carried out the coronation of Marian images. Pray here to Our Lady of the Universe

W dniu 22 sierpnia Kościół rzymskokatolicki obchodzi uroczystość ku czci Królowej Maryi. To wspomnienie jest umieszczone w oktawie Wniebowzięcia NMP. Wniebowzięcie i koronację należy wyraźnie rozróżnić. • Marian prayers / Modlitwy maryjne: Prayer to Our Lady of Perpetual Help (31)

Since 1866 the Redemptorists have spread devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary under the icon and title of Our Mother of Perpetual Help (also known as Our Lady of Perpetual Help). According to tradition, the ancient Byzantine icon of Our Mother of Perpetual Help was stolen from a church in Crete, where many miracles had occurred. The image remained in the private possession of a Roman merchant and his family until 1499, when it was publicly displayed in the Church of St. Matthew in Rome between the Basilicas of St. Mary Major and St. John Lateran. When St. Matthew’s was destroyed in 1789, the icon was rescued and hung in an obscure monastery chapel. The Redemptorists asked Pope Pius IX for permission to move the icon to their new church, San Alfonso, which was built on the location of the icon’s earlier home. The pope granted his permission and told the Redemptorists to “make her known throughout the world.” In 1878, the Basilica and Shrine of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Boston, Massachusetts, obtained a certified copy of the icon being the first in the United States. Pray here to Our Lady of Perpetual Help

Mateusza został zniszczony w 1789 r., ikona została uratowana i zawieszona w mało znanej kaplicy klasztornej.
